I have just finished shooting a video that I have been attempting to make for the last two years. It has proved to be lengthy and tricky to get all the required factors together on one day (or two in this case) the weather, the water levels, the Swans, the cameraman and me in an inspired mood!
The following photo by Kiordian Deren is of the flooded Lee Valley, Macroom, County Cork, Ireland. Ever since I first saw the place, I was inspired by its photographic possibilities.
The black shapes on the water are drowned trees, contorted into strange shapes. There are often Swans on the water and there is a marked and beautiful contrast between the moving white graceful birds and the dark static stumps. I am now looking forward to getting down to the editing stage – hopefully this won’t take so long!
